something like fan object objects (2021) is a digital video experiment of disrupting visual information through several steps of mediation and remediation. The video combines processes of 3D scanning, machine learning, and video editing. A discarded fan was mediated through faulty 3D scanning, rendered into a rotating 360° animation, and exported as 1400 individual frames that served as a dataset for a machine learning algorithm. The fan’s image was diffracted into 10,000 iterations of AI generated, imperfect, flickering distortions.

By placing a discarded fan into recursive cycles of translation, this piece decentres human perception, affirming a posthuman field of vision. The project interrogates how machinic processes generate their own forms of legibility, indifferent to human standards of fidelity and recognition. The fan is no longer an object simply mediated for human consumption. It becomes a node where material discard, algorithmic distortion, and machinic iteration coalesce in a mesh of nonhuman agencies.
