stratified misalignment (2023)

foun

stratified misalignment comes as a result of experiments with nonhuman computational vision, including the digital visualization of 3D scanning, 3D printing, video documentation, and video encoding. The piece consists of three components that combine to accentuate the misalignment and miscomprehensions that occur in digital mediation.

The 3D scan models of found objects (a lemon juice bottle and three decomposing cigarettes) were used to create the 3D prints as well as the animation of the slow partial rotation of the models. The animation is projected onto the 3D prints in a way that will never fully align with the printed objects, showing the discrepancy between two different forms of digital vision. The video component shows a massive glitch that occurred during the export of video documentation of the projection onto the 3D prints. This accidental error testifies to the fragility and instability that can occur in digital mediation. The shelf support structures made of found wood are made of found materials to coalesce the corporeality of digital decay with that of materiality.
